- an infection caused by amoeba.
amoeba - a
microscopic, one celled organism that can change
shape.
amoebic dysentery - a
disease caused by amoebae. You get acute inflammatory of
the colon, with severe pain and diarrhea.
amoeboid -
amoeba-like. Cells inside your body are
amoeboid.
bacteria - tiny
microscopic organisms that the amoeba eats.
chromosomes - things
inside the amoeba's nucleus that carry the plan for the
amoeba.
contractile vacuole -
organelle used to release water from the
amoeba.
crystals - waste
storage in the amoeba.
cytoplasm - means
"soft cell stuff." It is inside the amoeba.
fissure - the process
of an amoeba splitting into two daughter
amoeba.
food cup - a
pocket-type thing that is created by an amoeba that is
used to catch food.
food vacuole -
organelle used to store and digest food.
gel - stiffer
cytoplasm.
hyaline cap - clear
tip of a psuedopod that appears every few
seconds.
locomote - movement of
the amoeba.
membrane - outer
"shell" of an amoeba for protecting it and holding it
together.
nucleus - an organelle
that controls the amoeba, but is unlike the brain,
because it doesn't think and learn.
organelles - these are
inside the cytoplasm. They are equivalent to organs. The
word means, "little organs."
pinocytosis - means,
"cell drinking." It is the process of an amoeba
drinking.
proteus - a god who
could change form.
psuedopod - means,
"false foot." The amoeba produces a false foot to move
around.
sol - softer
cytoplasm.
vesicle - a sack made
of membrane found in the cytoplasm.
